Metal Siding & Cladding
Metal Siding & Metal Cladding Contractor in the GTA
Custom metal siding, architectural cladding and sheet metal fabrication for residential and commercial exteriors across the GTA. Primus handles fabrication and installation with precision at every transition, opening and roof-to-wall connection.
Fabrication and Installation Expertise
Metal siding and architectural cladding are used on residential homes, additions, commercial buildings and mixed-use projects where a clean, modern exterior is the design intent. Unlike standard siding products, metal cladding often involves custom-fabricated components — panels, flashings, corners, transitions and trim — that need to be designed and built to fit the specific project.
Primus brings sheet-metal fabrication knowledge to every cladding project. We understand how metal panels are made, how they need to be detailed at every transition, and how they integrate with roofing, windows, doors and other exterior systems. That combination of fabrication and installation expertise is what makes the difference on a metal cladding project.
What Metal Siding & Cladding Offers
Modern Architectural Appearance
Metal siding and cladding deliver clean lines and a contemporary look that works well on modern residential homes, additions and mixed-use buildings.
Durable Exterior Protection
Properly installed metal cladding provides a robust, weather-resistant exterior that holds up well in the GTA climate.
Custom Fabrication
Many metal cladding applications require custom-fabricated components. Primus has the sheet-metal expertise to produce and install them correctly.
Precise Detailing
Corners, transitions, openings and roof-to-wall junctions all require careful detailing. Getting these right determines both the appearance and the long-term performance of the installation.
Low Maintenance
Properly installed metal cladding requires relatively little ongoing maintenance compared with many exterior materials.
Integration with Other Systems
Metal siding and cladding need to work with roofing, soffit, fascia, windows and doors. Primus coordinates all of these transitions as part of the installation.
Where Metal Siding & Cladding Is Used
Residential Exteriors
Modern homes and renovations where a clean, architectural metal exterior is the design intent. Metal siding works on full-house applications as well as partial re-cladding and additions.
Accent Panels and Feature Walls
Metal cladding used selectively on specific elevations or sections of a building to create visual interest and contrast with other exterior materials.
Commercial and Mixed-Use Buildings
Smaller commercial and mixed-use buildings in the GTA where metal siding or cladding is specified for the exterior — including retail, office and light industrial.
Roof-to-Wall Transitions
Areas where the roofline meets the wall cladding require careful flashing and transition detailing. Primus handles these junctions as part of the full scope.
Custom Architectural Details
Metal cladding can be used for soffits, fascia transitions, parapets, entry features, dormers and other architectural details where custom-fabricated metal is required.
FAQ
Common Questions About Metal Siding & Cladding
- What is the difference between metal siding and metal cladding?
- Metal siding typically refers to profiled panels — ribbed, corrugated, or lap-style — installed horizontally or vertically on a residential exterior. Metal cladding is a broader term that includes flat panels, cassette systems, and custom-fabricated assemblies used on both residential and commercial buildings. Both are installed by Primus and the right choice depends on the building type, aesthetic, and budget.
- What metals do you use for siding and cladding?
- We work primarily with aluminum and steel. Aluminum is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and well-suited to residential applications. Steel offers greater rigidity and is common on commercial and industrial buildings. Material selection depends on the project scope, exposure conditions, and finish requirements.
- Can metal siding be installed over existing cladding?
- In some cases, yes — but it depends on the condition of the existing substrate, the framing, and whether the wall assembly can accommodate the added thickness. We assess the existing wall before recommending an approach. Installing over compromised or moisture-damaged substrate is not something we recommend.
- How does metal siding perform in the GTA climate?
- Metal siding handles freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow loads, and summer heat well when properly installed with the correct fastening, expansion allowances, and flashing at all openings and transitions. Primus pays close attention to these details — they are where most installation failures originate.
- Do you handle the flashing and trim as well?
- Yes. Flashing at windows, doors, rooflines, and wall-to-wall transitions is part of every metal siding and cladding installation we do. We fabricate custom trim and flashing in-house where standard profiles do not fit the geometry of the building.
- Do you work on commercial buildings as well as residential?
- Yes. Primus installs metal cladding on both residential and commercial buildings across the GTA. Commercial projects often involve larger panel systems, tighter tolerances at penetrations, and coordination with other trades — all of which we are experienced with.
